Old-Fashioned Apple Sauce Cake with Caramel Apple Glaze
 

2 cups firmly packed light brown sugarPreview
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup whole-wheat flour
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cups White HouseâApple Sauce
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 eggs
 
Preheat oven to 350º F. Grease 10-inch (12-cup) Bundt pan. Combine first 8
ingredients in mixing bowl. Add applesauce, oil, vanilla and eggs. Mix on
low speed until ingredients are moistened. Beat at high speed for 2 minutes.
Pour into prepared cake pan. Bake 45-50 minutes or until wooden pick
inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a baking rack 20
minutes then turn out of pan and cool completely. Prepare glaze.
 

Caramel Apple Glaze

 
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons White HouseâApple Sauce
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 tablespoon light cream or milk
3/4 cup confectioners sugar
1/4 cup chopped, toasted walnuts or pecans (optional)
 
In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, White HouseâApple Sauce, butter and cream. Bring mixture to a boil. Continue to boil, while stirring, for 2 to 3
minutes. Remove from heat and cool 20 minutes. Whisk in confectioners
sugar until smooth. Spoon over top of cake. Garnish with nuts, if desired.
