Kerm's Red Cabbage
3 medium size heads of red cabbage
3 medium sweet onions
3 tbsp. pickling salt
3 medium apples
3 cups White House Apple Cider Vinegar

Cut, core, quarter and shred cabbage. Peel, core and dice apples. Peel and dice onions. Mix together, cover with water and boil until soft. Make syrup by combining pickling salt and vinegar. Bring to a boil. Drain mixture of cabbage, apples and onions. Add syrup and boil for 5 minutes. Fill into sterilized quart jars to 1/2-inch from top. Seal and process in boiling water bath for 35 minutes.
